Composition

  • Chairperson of Foundation concurrently becomes President of the Conservation & Management Committee
  • Comprises of 3 Sub-Committees
    - Expert Committee
    - Administrative Committee
    - Seowon Steering Committee
  • Joint sessions between the sub-committees may be held and other sub-committees may be installed if needed

Roles

  • Deliberate and take decisions on matters related to the integrated conservation and management of the Seowon
  • Take decisions on projects related to World Heritage Inscription and promotion
  • Implement decisions of the Executive Board and take decisions on matters delegated by the Executive Board

Composition

  • Comprised of 10 experts in various arena including World Heritage, architecture, and Korean history
  • President appointed by Chairperson among members of Expert Committee

Roles

  • Provide advice for promotion of the World Heritage Inscription
  • Provide guidelines for the protection of OUV, authenticity, and integrity of Seowon
  • Take decisions on projects related to World Heritage Inscription and promotion
  • Provide expertise on conservation and management, education, and promotion activities
  • Provide expert guidance on conservation and management to other seowons in Korea

Composition

  • Comprises of the Secretary-General, cultural heritage directors of the 14 local governments of provinces, cities and counties in which nine Seowon are located
  • Secretary-general of the Secretariat concurrently holds the President of Administrative Committee

Roles

  • Decide on plans and budget execution of Foundation
  • Implement conservation & management, promotional activities, and education of Seowon
  • Responsible for administrative tasks related to Seowon

Composition

  • Comprises of rectors, directors, councilors, and administrators of nine seowon
  • President is elected by members of the committee

Roles

  • Responsible for ritual ceremonies at Seowon
  • In charge of overall daily operation of Seowon
  • Operating and planning of promotion of Seowon heritage
  • Providing advice on matters of tradition related to Seowon
 

Composition

  • Secretary-General, 3 Divisions for Administration & Planning, Conservation & Management, and Public Relations
  • Full-time employment of 3 officers and 1 Secretary-general
  • Dispatch of public officers from local governments possible if deemed necessary

Roles

  • Secretary-General : Head of Secretariat
  • Administration & Planning: Financial and administrative operation of Foundation
  • Conservation & Management: Overall coordination of conservation projects of Seowon
  • Public Relations: Management of website, media and promotional events

World Heritage Inscription

  • Production of the nomination dossier of Seowon and appendices composed of Nomination of Seowon, Neo-Confucian Academies of the Joseon Dynasty and Appendix 1. Conservation and Management Plan of Seowon, Appendix 2. Photos and Drawings, Appendix 3. Understanding Korean Seowon
  • Held Working-level Workshops, international and domestic symposiums for World Heritage Inscription
  • Publication of materials related to Seowon
  • Coordination of all related stakeholders of Seowon for the World Heritage nomination

Conservation & Management

  • Provided expertise on Conservation & Management of nine Seowon
  • Consulted on drafting of comprehensive maintenance plans for individual Seowon
  • Continuously reviewed comprehensive maintenance plans
  • Established and executed monitoring plans for the nine Seowon
  • Established short, mid, and long-term plans for the conservation of each Seowon
  • Operated Conservation & Management Foundation of Seowon
  • Established comprehensive plan for utilization of heritage for each Seowon
